A prototype microscope that uses neutrons instead of light to “see” magnified images has been demonstrated at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Neutron microscopes might eventually offer certain advantages over optical, X-ray and electron imaging techniques such as better contrast for biological samples.

This site used to be for the pros but became so popular with the general public they're in the process of making it easier to navigate.
Let's face it. There's just too many interesting sites out there to catch up on them all.

UC Riverside Researcher Takes Snapshots Of The ovement Of Molecules In A Billionth Of A Second
Henry
------------A team of researchers including University of California, Riverside Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Ludwig Bartels has developed a technique to take extremely fast snapshots of molecular and atomic movement. The development is considered a significant advance in surface science, the study of chemical reactions taking place on the surface of solids.

Deeper-Diving Human Occupied Submersible To Replace Alvin
---------------
Henry
(This Alvin ain't no chipmonk!)After 40 years of scientific research that led to the discovery of new life forms, helped confirm the theory of plate tectonics, and enthralled schoolchildren around the world with seafloor images and video, the research submersible Alvin will be replaced by a new, deeper-diving vehicle.

The Cosmic Revolution: Task Force Outlines Role Of Particle Physics In A New Universe
--------------------
Henry
A string of recent discoveries in astronomy has left scientists with an unsettling realization: The stuff we know and understand makes up less than 5 percent of the universe. The rest has to be yet-unknown forms of "dark matter" and "dark energy."
(What happened to the antimatter? Don't look at me; I didn't take it!)The Nine Questions
I. Einstein's dream of unified forces
1. Are there undiscovered principles of nature: new symmetries, new physical laws?
2. How can we solve the mystery of dark energy?
3. Are there extra dimensions of space?
4. Do all forces become one?
II. The particle world
5. Why are there so many kinds of particles?
6. What is dark matter? How can we make it in the laboratory?
7. What are neutrinos telling us?
8. How did the universe come to be?
9. What happened to the antimatter?

You mean THEY are admitting there are things THEY don't know?
Uh, what is Einstein's dream of unified forces?
Um......"Let the Force be with you!" .....sorry, couldn't resist.

Hmmm...Well if they're no longer claiming to know everything then they must already be out of school.lswot wrote: You mean THEY are admitting there are things THEY don't know?

"Unified, Forces, Dream"......does this have anything to do with that "Girls Gone Wild" video I've heard about??
"Let the force be with you..." 'specially when you're trying to open the pickle jar.
Oh......Henry J wrote:Re "what is Einstein's dream of unified forces? "
Once force to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them.
Or something.
This must be akin to Temporal Mechanics.....since I feel a headahce starting.

Anyhoo, the goal of physicists is to find one set of rules that covers all the forces. They've already merged electric and magnetic into one such, then later merged the weak force with that. I'm not sure if quark color force (and no I don't mean the big eared bartender) has been fully merged with electroweak or not. Gravity is still a (or the?) big standout, of course.
