I learned about this when I visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial.
There was an American Elm in a parking lot across the street from the Murrah Building. In the blast, cars in the lot were incinerated, and the tree was severely damaged. It was nursed back to health and now stands prominently as part of the memorial. In fact, it's featured in the memorial's logo:
While visiting the memorial, I learned that seedlings from the tree are now growing all over the nation at schools, churches, government buildings, even at the White House.
So I went online to see if just anyone can buy one, and discovered this incredible source for trees of historic origin. There you can get such incredible seedlings as:
Descendants of the American Elm "Survivor Tree".
Descendants of Elvis Presley's Weeping Willow at Graceland.
Or his Southern Magnolia.
Descendants of a Selma, Alabama, Live Oak that shaded the gathering crowd which Martin Luther King, Jr. led in the March on Montgomery.
Descendants of Sycamore seeds taken to the Moon and back aboard Apollo XIV.
Descendants of a Honey Locust that witnessed Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
