You mean you missed it? You must have been out of town that weekend!I'm still waiting for the meteor Robertson predicted would hit Orlando when the city allowed rainbow flags on light poles during Gay Pride Month in 1998

By the way this stunt the American Fundamentalists are pulling of having their members elected to positions such as local school boards sounds familiar as a political tactic. Isn't that the way the Nazis came to power in Germany in the 30s? Start small then dictate up?

the liberals did that too till now they have really messed up the country.
At least the christians are not going to drum you out of college for telling the truth or have you arrested if you say the wrong thing in public (both of which has happened many times recently) .....
the best solution if you do not want christianity or child porn taught in schools, is to get government out of schools. Each one privately run, whatever size one wants to make it, you can have your child taught EXACTLY how you want it done.
also, with schools privately run, you would no longer be able to change the curriculem of the entire district by paying off one or two politicians.

Funny. While I've seen liberal boondogles I've always been more aware of right wing influence during my time in schools i.e. school prayer (back when the Catholic church did NOT want prayers in school because they were not Catholic prayers), "under god" thrown into the Pledge Allegiance, hiding under the desks in case of a nuclear attack, dismissal of teachers thought to be "Reds" or "Commies" or even in (the words they used back then instead of "Liberal") "A Very Deep Shade Of Pink".the liberals did that too till now they have really messed up the country
The Liberals? Turning a learning institution into a place where no school child can be expelled, no child need legitimately pass a course because to fail will hurt that child's delicate ego, tenure which walks both sides of the good/bad spectrum.
Which christian truth? Yours, mine or Pat Robertson's? I'm not familiar with any of the incidents relating to "happened many times recently". Could you clarify? At least the christians are not going to drum you out of college for telling the truth or have you arrested if you say the wrong thing in public (both of which has happened many times recently) .....
I don't see any relationship between those two but my biggest gripe about govenment in schools, including the current White House occupants, is as you say that 'standardizing' of all schools. I was one of the better readers all through school but since have run into people who can read circles around me. And retain what they've read. Based on this 'stardardization' crap should I be measured by their abilities or them mine? Either way stinks.the best solution if you do not want christianity or child porn taught in schools, is to get government out of schools.
I've never been in a privately run school. Some government somewhere has always had some control. "Locally" run schools ran into problems because they sometimes got too "local" and the students couldn't compete in the open market. The Federal Government guarantees an education for all so they should put up the money for public education locally run (probably with oversite by an outside board) with a core of studies then butt out. But through the years what the government has wanted (both left and right) are propaganda factories. IMHOEach one privately run
Fine on the surface but the schools would still have to have oversite. Otherwise we might wind up with schools run by fundamentalists just like Saudi Arabia Afghanastan, Iran, Iraq, etc. And I wouldn't want that. Would you?with schools privately run, you would no longer be able to change the curriculem of the entire district by paying off one or two politicians.
You know.....I think your right. Oh, well.....I've slept since then.brian wrote:Was that CSI? I heard the same quote sometime in the past week, but I can't recall just where. And I don't watch CSI....
Could it have been Threshold? It had a church story last week.

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A federal judge on Tuesday banned the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution by Pennsylvania's Dover Area School District, saying the practice violated the constitutional ban on teaching religion in public schools.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge John Jones dealt a blow to U.S. Christian conservatives who have been pressing for the teaching of creationism in schools and who played a significant role in the re-election of President George W. Bush.
"Our conclusion today is that it is unconstitutional to teach intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in a public school classroom," Jones wrote in a 139-page opinion.
The school district was sued by a group of 11 parents who claimed teaching intelligent design was unconstitutional and unscientific and had no place in high school biology classrooms.
The six-week Harrisburg trial, one of the highest-profile court cases on evolution since the 1925 Scopes trial, was closely watched in at least 30 states where Christian conservatives are planning similar initiatives.
