When red-lining a document for editing and you have marked a word for deletion and then change your mind, you write "stet" to mean leave it as-is.
Stet lead to stat for me because they sound similar, and of course, stat means "right now" in hospital lingo.

Ah-ha! The dawn comes! I've heard of it but never used it. Now I'm not saying I've never changed my mind, just never used it.
Sound alikes are good I've just never heard of it used in hospital lingo.

I've been at the hospital for 30 years, and I hear and read "Stat" a dozen times a day.
