I've never heard of a vlog, but -->My blog is here<--
It's not much tho, just my ramblings about the past special election, and my game engine. There was more, but I kinda goofed and lost the whole thing. so had to start over.

The place you have your blog set up, is that a free site or is there a charge involved?
Another question. I'm always interested in learning new things so I'm curious on your use of the word "tenyer" and its definition. I've heard of the word "tenure" and know it has to do with guaranteeing employment to teachers after a period of time spent non-tenured but they still have to be approved by a school board. Or so I thought. I don't remember either how long a teacher had to wait to become tenured but I thought tenure was like a Supreme Court Justice, for life. Or at least very difficult to break.
I'm not addressing the value of such a guarantee for a lifetime of employment, goodness knows I've heard arguments on both sides for almost all of my life. Just are tenyer/tenure one and the same? Does it vary state to state or even school district to school district?
Just wondering. I might even learn something.

Well now Yahoo 360 has 11 listings for Bev H/bev h and only 1 with a personal photo. The other 10 haven't even filled out any of the personal stuff which makes me feel better about how much I left out.BevH wrote:Try Bev H... the space between seems to make a difference.
You don't have anything to do with "Union Tuttle" (a stadium, I believe) do you?

You have the correct spelling. Tenure in Calif started out as:Xjmt wrote:The place you have your blog set up, is that a free site or is there a charge involved?

"after 10 years of employment as a teacher, he/she would be granted tenure by agreement with the teachers union, and not be elegible for fireing."
That was changed several years ago to 2 years.
Our Govenor tried to change it back to 5 years, but the FCC doesn't pay any attention to political adds, and it was defeated. So now we are stuck with bad teachers. (a few. Not a lot. Most of our teachers are great)
As for my blog, it's on free hosting. There are several templates available, and all are configurable. I chaned mine from it's original, but when I deleted my blog, (umm, by mistake) I just reinstalled the original.
You can even host it on your own domain. (that's where mine was originally, but it was a pain to update)

Yeah, the one with the personal photo and Union Tuttle (from a band competition my daughter was in earlier this year) would be me.Xjmt wrote:Well now Yahoo 360 has 11 listings for Bev H/bev h and only 1 with a personal photo. Yeah! Tenure has been a battleground I've always avoided. I guess there are people out there who will take advantage no matter what the rules. It seems to be along the lines to what the "at will" employment view does in other employment.
There's gotta be a middle ground here somewhere but no side seems to want to concede what they have in hand. No trial periods, no reviews, no "three strikes, you're out" and no outside arbutration of challanges.
I guess you can get "crumb bums" on both sides. And none of that is helping our schools.
I saw the "FCC" and the only thing I can think of offhand is "Federal Communications Commission" so I'm wondering what "FCC" means here. That's the funny thing about acronyms. We only have so many letters in the English language so some acronyms get recycled for other things. On the old "Dragnet" show they used "APB", which was a legit usage from police work, for "All Points Bulletin" but I have since run into that acronym for other things. Gets confusing.
The Yahoo! blog area is in beta so things are not as clear (to me) on how to do what, when, where & where. But I figured it might be a stepping stone to a web site some day.

At least on the college level, the main purpose of tenure (which, on the college level, you usually get after six years) is to protect academic freedom. Yes, it does also unfortunately end up protecting some bad teachers as well, but the idea is that if you can get fired for expressing an unpopular opinion, you'll be a lot less likely to express it, no matter how true you are convinced that it is, and thus that unpopular truths will be a lot less likely to be discovered unless those who express them are protected.
Yeah! I see how that could become a political football.DonaldTurner wrote:At least on the college level, the main purpose of tenure (which, on the college level, you usually get after six years) is to protect academic freedom. There was a local news story this morning about a teenager who incriminated himself on his blog. He was a passenger in a fatal car crash, where his best friend (the driver) died. On his blog, he admitted that he was drunk and yanked the wheel, causing the crash. He has now been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter.
