'Endless' unreleased music in Jackson's vaults

NEW YORK – Those familiar with Michael Jackson's vaults say the pop star has left behind a trove of unreleased music.

Executives and lawyers who know the material anticipate the swelling demand of fans should be satisfied with unreleased tracks from studio sessions of some of Jackson's best albums, as well as more recently recorded songs made with Akon and will.i.am.

Tommy Mottola is the former chairman and CEO of Sony Music, which owns the distribution rights to Jackson's music. He described the unreleased material as "endless."

Mottola said new and repackaged releases "could go on for years and years — even more than Elvis."

Well now, Elvis died in '77 (I think) and there's still a show on the radio that plays nothing but Elvis' recordings for an hour each week. That's over 30 years since Elvis' death. And I'm sure that singers like Frank Sinatra also have their "own" shows somewhere even now. For me Jackson was more fun as a performer/dancer than a singer so it would be interesting to see just how long Jackson maintains popularity.

I guess as long as somebody has some chance of gaining some money from it.

They said on Today this morning that MJ had an estimated 100-200 songs recorded and locked away, expressly for the purpose of providing for his children in the event of his death.

We could be seeing albums of "new" Michael Jackson music being released for years to come.

Was there much "new" material released after Elvis' death? I remember "A Little Less Conversation" because that was fairly recent. But in the years right after 1977, were there any unheard tracks released? I don't recall. I was 10 at the time and didn't pay much attention.

Elvis was always singing and recording. Some just rehearsals others live shows that were recorded solely for him to judge how the performance went etc, Many songs he sang were not his own which was then allowed to be recorded if in a live performance. All of these songs were held in storage after his death and only released within the past 10 years or so.

Some needed modern technology to clear up sound problems. One song was recorded by a cop at a concert on his walkman tape player/recorder and really needed help cleaning up. Some songs were held back because they already had enough songs for an album and were never released til recently.

Over the past 5 years I've heard so many "new" songs by Elvis I sometimes doubt he did die.

If Jackson put some songs "in the can" for the future of his children then guess where he got the idea from?
