SBC Credit Card Scam

Post by Donahoo » Tue Apr 13, 2004 9:45 am

I think most people here still have SBC/Yahoo so I thought I would post this here, too. I don't want anybody here giving your credit card information to somebody in China!

I got this e-mail today and it really looks legitimate:
From: "SBC eBill" <eBill@sbc.com>
To: donahoo@prodigy.net
Subject: SBC eBill(SM) Billing Update Requested (URGENT)
Date: Mon, 12 Apr 2004 19:06:30 -0800

Dear Customer,
Recently we attempted to authorize payment from your credit card we have on file for you, but it was declined.
For security purposes, our system automatically removes credit card information from an account when there is a problem or the card expires.
Please resubmit the credit card, and provide us with new and complete information. To resubmit credit card information via our secure server, click the following link:

https://www06.sbc.com/myaccount/Control ... eMyAccount

This is the quickest and easiest method of getting credit card information to us. Using the secure server will ensure that the credit card will be placed on account within 24 hours.
Thank you for using the SBC eBill service.

Sincerely,
SBC eBill Online Customer Service

Haven't seen that one, but I have received about 300+ emails today, from various domains saying that my emails selling bootleg software and prescription drugs are undeliverable. :flame:

Does SBC/Yahoo do anything about a spammer faking the return address to a user in the prodigy.net domain? Should I forward these to abuse@prodigy.net, or just keep on deleting them and hope the spammer moves on to someone else soon?

I don't know about forwarding to the Abuse people, but you might try asking that question on the Member Help BB - http://mhelp.bb.prodigy.net/mhelpb/Ultimate.cgi - where I posted this same note.

BTW, the spoofed SBC site has now been taken down.

Damn. And all I ever get are the ones promising to either lower my mortgage or enlarge my penis. :x

(Still waiting for the one that promises to do both. :P)
